Artistic Statement
The topic of our work is “Coping mechanisms for loneliness”. We looked at and got inspired by the main type of content or memes that the current generation is consuming. A lot of memes talk about sad topics like being lonely, depressed and even suicidal and it has a touch of comedy and a lot of tacky and poppy colors. Because we are inspired by memes, by default we began focusing on comedic, tragic and nihilism aspects. Most of the memes we looked at were a cry for help but were disguised using comedy. The challenge we are facing is how can we bring out these aspects using just space and materials.
We are progressing towards post humanism. What makes humans ‘humans’ and distinct from other living beings and man – made creations is getting lost. We have fewer physical interactions, empathy, feelings, logical reasoning and are stuck in this rigid system that makes our life monotonous.
Through this, we are trying to comment on how dehumanized we have become. We are trying to exaggerate the comedic aspect so that the satire is in the audience’s face.
